Lufthansa planning to fly the super jumbo A-380 to New Delhi
12th Jan 2011
Lufthansa, which already flies A-380 to Tokyo, Beijing, Johannesburg and New York, plans to make New Delhi its fifth destination for the aircraft & has applied to the Govt. for the permission as per a report in the Economic Times. The 526-seater A-380 (eight first; 98 business and 420 economy seats) is to replace the 352-seater Boeing 747 that's currently deployed on Delhi-Frankfurt route. Since last April, all airlines, including Lufthansa, have seen a massive growth in traffic in and out of India and have reached the unprecedented high of 2007-08. So, airlines are now replacing smaller planes with bigger ones on India routes and the A-380 could be the current biggest plane replacing the old giant, the 747.
The A-380 will be a big boost for tourism, India's aviation and our successful co-operation with AI, which already has a code-share on this route. After receiving all necessary permissions, we require about two to three months of preparation time to begin scheduled operations of the A-380 to India," said Axel Hilgers , Lufthansa's director-south Asia. The preparation, among other things, requires getting a flight caterer with a lift to load food trays on the second deck of the aircraft!
