Taj Mahal gate fees amount to nearly Rs 20 crore
31st July 2011The Taj Mahal has come up as the highest grosser in terms of gate fees with Rs 19.89 crore earned solely through footfalls. The government earned Rs 87.03 crore from entrance fee at 116 centrally-protected monuments in 2010-11. Eight monuments in the Agra circle contributed the maximum, Rs 37.85 crore. The overall income is an improvement on 2009-10 figure of Rs 78.23 crore. Agra circle's income has also gone up by more than Rs three crore from 2009-10, according to a report in The Times of India.
After the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort had maximum visitors as it earned Rs 10.42 crore from tickets, followed by the Qutub Minar in Delhi which reported earnings of Rs 10.05 crore. In Agra, Fatehpur Sikri was the third-highest earner (Rs 5.73 crore).
